Amadeus

Assiniboine Theatre Company is happy to announce their Spring 2024 production of Amadeus. Running time is approximately 2.5 hours with one intermission. Performance Dates are May 2-4, 2024 at 7:30 p.m.

Amadeus, by Peter Shaffer, dramatizes Antonio Salieri’s intense rivalry with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and treats tantalizing themes of fame and infamy, love and loathing, rumour and truth and eternity and extinction.

Employed by Austrian Emperor Joseph II, Salieri is a respected, if lacklustre, composer whose one desire is to glorify God (and himself) through musical greatness. In barges Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a potty- mouthed, immature ruffian who, bafflingly and infuriatingly, can easily do what the envious Salieri can not: compose music of absolute beauty. Tormented by his own mediocrity and Mozart’s evermore dazzling genius, Salieri goes to war with God and sets out to destroy His instrument on earth, Mozart.
